Hand Hygiene Demonstration

1.  Set up hand washing station with soap, water, and hand sanitizer
2.  Demonstrate proper hand washing technique, including wetting hands, applying soap, lathering for at least 20 seconds, rinsing thoroughly, and drying hands along with proper disposal
   • rub your hands together to create a lather including the back of your hands between your fingers and under your nails.
   • Pay attention to your fingertips and thumbs.
   • To achieve the 20 seconds rule, hmmm the happy birthday song or any similar song twice.
   • Under clean, running water start at the wrists before the fingertips.
   • Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dryer. Use the towel to turn off the water.
   • Dispose of the towel to avoid cross-contamination.
3.  Have students practice hand washing following the demonstrated technique. Following practice have student record themselves washing their hands appropriately and upload the recording for grading.
4.  Provide feedback and correct any errors in hand washing technique.
5.  Provide final checkoff on the skill of hand washing
